With carbon fiber prices rising consecutively, will downstream buyers actually absorb the cost? And how should composite material manufacturers seize this market upswing?

First, the conclusion: Whether downstream buyers absorb the price hike depends on the product category—high-value-added sectors (e.g., wind power, eVTOL) are relatively insensitive to raw-material cost increases, enabling smooth cost pass-through; for mid-to-low-end, highly competitive categories, forced price transfers may not be accepted by customers. Thus, 'capturing this opportunity' does not happen automatically—it hinges on manufacturers’ own upgrading efforts. Why now? Two robust demand-side trends are driving this: First, wind turbine blades are becoming larger and lighter, steadily increasing composite material usage; second, the emerging low-altitude economy centered on eVTOL features airframes with high composite content—a purely incremental market. These dual engines have pushed composite manufacturers into a strategic window—but a window does not guarantee automatic profit capture. What can composite manufacturers do? They should treat the price increase as a catalyst for upgrading—not merely raising prices. Improving yield rates and reducing scrap can absorb part of the cost increase; automation can shorten cycle times and lower labor costs; and shifting production capacity toward wind-power and eVTOL components optimizes product mix. These three steps are far more sustainable than blunt cost pass-through. From a manufacturing perspective, the key challenge in implementing such upgrades lies in consistency: press platen flatness, pressure stability, temperature control, and seamless integration of automated cycle timing—all directly determine yield rate.

Yesterday, two companies listed on Nasdaq and one on the NYSE.

1. J-Star Holding, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of carbon fiber components, priced its U.S. IPO at $4 per share, raising $5 million. Its ticker symbol is YMAT. J-Star Holding, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of carbon fiber components for bicycles, rackets, and other products, issued 1.3 million shares at $4 each, raising $5 million. The offering price sits at the low end of its $4–$5 price range. The company operates under the brand name YMA and produces carbon fiber-reinforced materials and resin systems used to manufacture various lightweight, high-performance carbon fiber composite products. J-Star Holding generates revenue primarily through sales of bicycle components, racket components, and other products—including automotive structural parts, sports equipment, and healthcare products. J-Star Holding listed on the Nasdaq under the ticker symbol YMAT. Maxim Group LLC served as the sole bookrunner for the offering. 2. Ambiq Micro, an ultra-low-power chipmaker, priced its IPO at $24 per share, raising $96 million. Its ticker symbol is AMBQ. Ambiq Micro designs ultra-low-power chips for artificial intelligence computing and other applications. It issued 4 million shares at $24 each—within its $22–$25 price range—raising $96 million. The number of shares offered exceeded the initially anticipated amount by 600,000. Ambiq Micro provides ultra-low-power semiconductor solutions designed to address the substantial power-consumption challenges facing general-purpose computing and AI computing—particularly at the edge. The company’s proprietary Sub-threshold Power Optimized Technology (SPOT) platform is a dedicated ultra-low-power chip design platform comprising a suite of chip-design techniques that enable standard transistors to operate in ultra-low-power modes known as 'sub-threshold' and 'near-threshold'. Ambiq’s solutions include a diverse portfolio of system-on-chip (SoC) products, along with software required to enable on-chip AI processing, general-purpose computing, sensing, security, storage, wireless connectivity, and advanced graphics processing.
