According to China Chemical News, on October 14, the China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as the Pipeline Design Institute) received a letter of award for an ADNOC project through its Abu Dhabi branch, successfully securing the detailed engineering design contract for wellhead tie-ins at ADNOC Onshore’s Southeast and Bu Hasa oilfields. This marks a new high in contract value for a single international project independently developed outside the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) Group, representing a milestone achievement in the high-end Middle Eastern market. In the new-energy sector, Abu Dhabi is also actively positioning itself. The UAE government’s “Energy Strategy 2050” outlines a vision to source 44% of the country’s energy from renewable sources, 6% from nuclear power, 38% from natural gas, and 12% from clean coal utilization by 2050. Moreover, ADNOC is advancing hydrogen initiatives, aiming to produce 1.4 million tons of hydrogen annually by 2031 and scaling up to 15 million tons annually by 2050 to achieve net-zero carbon emissions. Additionally, ADNOC has announced a $23 billion investment in decarbonization and low-carbon projects, targeting a 25% reduction in carbon intensity by 2030 and net-zero emissions by 2045. At the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Abu Dhabi demonstrated its firm commitment to transitioning away from fossil fuels and its massive investment in “future energy.” The establishment of UAE energy projects has generated significant demand for the energy and oil market. According to data from the UAE Ministry of Energy, Abu Dhabi is the UAE’s largest oil-producing emirate, accounting for approximately 95% of the country’s total oil output.
