Why do rural Trump supporters in northeast Colorado continue backing him despite high gas prices linked to his Iran policy?

Rural Trump supporters in northeast Colorado, such as Amy Van Duyn and Tonyah Bruyette in Wiggins, remain ardent supporters because they prioritize preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon over immediate economic pain, echoing Trump’s stated rationale; many also cite past energy price spikes under Biden, distrust of Democrats, and a belief that Trump ‘hears us’ and is ‘fighting for us.’

What does Jim Miller’s perspective reveal about the mindset of some rural Trump voters regarding sacrifice and national security?

Jim Miller, a retired commodities broker in Prospect Valley, views enduring high gas prices as a necessary and patriotic sacrifice—comparing it to WWII-era rationing—and believes such willingness to sacrifice has been ‘totally lost in this country,’ reflecting a broader sentiment among interviewed voters who accept short-term economic hardship to avert perceived existential threats like an Iranian nuclear weapon.
