    A world first! NKT uses low-carbon copper to produce high-voltage DC cables

    Cable manufacturer NKT, its suppliers and customers have agreed to use low-carbon copper for 320 kV HVDC cables, which NKT is supplying to Dogger Bank C in the North Sea, which was developed
    by SSE Renewables, Equinor and Eni Plenitude.

    The use of low-carbon copper will reduce the carbon footprint of high-voltage power cable systems by more than 23,000 tons of CO2 equivalent, which is equivalent to the annual emissions
    of 7,700 average family cars.

    Claes Westerlind, Executive Vice President and Head of High Voltage Solutions at NKT, said: "This pioneering collaboration with our customers and suppliers allows us to produce more sustainable cables
    using low-carbon copper.

    Low carbon copper cathode comes from the Boliden Aitik mine
    in northern Sweden.
    Vehicles in mines and smelters are powered by fossil-free electricity, transporting copper cathode from the mine to Elcowire in Helsingborg via electric trains domestically, which produces low-carbon copper wire
    in an efficient process.

    The use of low-carbon copper will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of NKT power cables as its carbon footprint is less than half
    that of standard copper.

    The manufacture of high-voltage cables takes place at the NKT plant in Karlskrona, Sweden, which uses 100% renewable electricity

    The installation of the North Sea Dogger Bank C cable system will be done by NKT Victoria, one of
