    ADNOC will build a blue ammonia facility in the UAE to promote clean energy

    China Petrochemical News Network reported on May 24, 2021, according to Electric Power News, as the UAE’s largest energy producer, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC.


    ADNOC stated in a statement on May 24 that the facility to be built in Ruwais, the industrial center of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, will have an annual production capacity of 1 million tons of blue ammonia.


    This facility in the Ta'ZIZ Industrial Park in Ruves is expected to start producing blue ammonia in 2025.


    ADNOC did not disclose the cost of this project.


    ADNOC CEO Gabell said in the statement: “As we are leading the global energy transition together, we believe that hydrogen and its carrier fuels, such as ammonia, will provide the prospect and potential of zero-carbon energy.


    At present, ADNOC has an annual hydrogen production of 300,000 tons, and plans to increase its annual hydrogen production capacity to more than 500,000 tons.

      The facility, to be built in the industrial hub of Ruwais in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, will have the capacity to produce 1 million mt/year of blue ammonia, ADNOC said in a May 24 statement.


      The facility, part of the TA'ZIZ industrial park in Ruwais, is envisaged to start production in 2025.


      "As we collectively navigate the global energy transition, we believe hydrogen, and its carrier fuels such as ammonia, offer promise and potential as zero carbon energy sources," Sultan al-Jaber, CEO of ADNOC, said in the statement.


      Currently ADNOC produces 300,000 mt/year of hydrogen and has plans to boost capacity to more than 500,000 mt/year.
