Amcor Rigid Packaging (ARP) announced the launch of PowerPost technology, which produces bottles that are nearly a third lighter than existing mainstream bottles, consume 30% less energy, and reduce carbon emissions by 30%
    .
The technology is also capable of using up to 100 percent recycled materials and is said to provide a superior consumer experience by eliminating spillage when the bottle is first opened

    .

ARP claims that PowerPost is the most advanced lightweight technology for hot-fill beverages on the market today
    .
It is described as an extension of Amcor's patented vacuum suction technology, PowerStrap

    .
The PowerPost base combines two key technologies - a reversible central stent that actively displaces vacuum, and PowerStrap, a flexible loop that surrounds the stent

    .
After filling, the column is reversed to actively replace the vacuum in the container

    .
As the product cools, the surrounding ring bends, passively absorbing any remaining vacuum

    .

By eliminating vacuum panels, PowerPost offers greater design freedom, premium appearance and consumer appeal, while achieving sustainability goals
    .
The elimination of panels in the main body also drives operational improvements in the filling machine

    .
The company said the bottle's label could be applied more effectively

    .

Terry Patcheak, ARP Vice President of R&D, Sustainability and Program Management, said: "Our engineers have developed lightweight technologies in the hot-fill space to help our customers meet their cost and sustainability needs
    .
This next-generation innovation will improve consumption user experience, while addressing the broad commitment to reducing material use and reducing greenhouse gas emissions

    .

Amcor has committed to making all of its packaging recyclable, compostable or reusable by 2025
    .

PET has quickly become the world's preferred packaging material, being lightweight, unbreakable, reclosable, resealable, reusable, and chemically infinitely recyclable
    .
In addition, according to Amcor's life cycle analysis, PET bottles typically have the lowest carbon footprint, resulting in production that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by up to 70% compared to other packaging materials
