Another big supermarket wants to phase out single-use plastic!

Giant Eagle has announced that by 2025 it will phase out the use of single-use plastics in all its operations, including plastic bags, straws, single-use food containers and bottled beverages

Giant Eagle will roll out short-term specific target actions in the coming months

In Pittsburgh, a six-month pilot program will begin at Giant Eagle's Waterworks Market District store

In addition to the pilot program, Giant Eagle plans to phase out its plastic bags from all Pittsburgh stores over the next few months

"I applaud Giant Eagle's commitment to phase out single-use plastic by 2025, a significant step forward in addressing the waste and recycling quality challenges Pittsburgh faces," Pittsburgh Mayor Bill Peduto said in a statement
