BASF plans to invest in a new world-class neopentyl glycol (NPG) plant with an annual capacity of 80,000 metric tons
at the Verbund site in Zhanjiang, China.
The new plant is expected to start operations in the fourth quarter of 2025, increasing BASF's global annual NPG production capacity from 255,000 metric tons to 335,000 metric tons, strengthening BASF's leading position
    as a global NPG manufacturer.
BASF currently has NPG production plants
in Ludwigshafen, Germany, Freeport Texas, USA, and Nanjing and Jilin, China.

As an intermediate with high chemical and thermal stability, NPG is mainly used in the production of powder coating resins, especially in
the construction industry and in household appliance coating applications.
Due to the low volatile organic compound (VOC) content of powder coatings, they can help users meet VOC emission standards, and VOC emissions can be reduced by up to 50%
    compared to liquid coatings.
NPG is also used in the manufacture of lubricants, plasticizers and pharmaceuticals
    .
