US-based plastic packaging producer Berry Global recently announced a partnership with Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) for the production and application of recycled polymers

    .

The move is part of Berry International's 2025 Sustainability Strategy Impact, released this year

    .

Berry International also plans to work with "trusted suppliers" to introduce environmentally sustainable packaging

    .

"As a leader in sustainable packaging, we highly value innovative ways to help us recycle valuable plastics," said Tom Salmon, chairman and CEO of Berry International

    .

"SABIC's timeline for starting semi-commercial production is one of the fastest we've seen in the industry, and we want to work with them to support the circular economy

    ," said Tom Salmon
    .

It is reported that Berry International plans to use SABIC's certified recycled polymer for the development of a recyclable, co-extruded stand-up bag

    .

The stand-up pouch contains 30% post-consumer material sourced from SABIC's recycled polymers

    .

Bob Maughon, Executive Vice President of Sustainability Technology and Innovation at SABIC, said: "This exciting project is a testament to our commitment to scaling up advanced chemical recycling processes for plastics to nascent polymers

    .

Chemical recycling includes removal of contaminants, inks and colorants
    .
It can recycle mixed plastic waste and develop new food packaging materials

    .

Saudi Basic Industries Corporation plans to build a plant in the Netherlands to separate and purify mixed plastic waste, which can be used as a raw material for plastic production
