Bioplastics become the latest keyword for Casio watches

To make its products and operations more environmentally friendly, Casio America is using bioplastics in its new PRW61-1A watch, a first for the company

The PRW61-1A is the latest addition to the Pro Trek line of Casio men's outdoor watches

The watch will be available this month, priced at $420
.

Casio's Pro Trek watches are positioned as rugged, stylish outdoor activity watches for outdoor activities such as hiking, camping, mountain biking and hunting

Product features include a digital compass, barometer/altimeter, thermometer and multi-band 6 radio wave reception

Casio chose bioplastic for the watch because it is a more sustainable material and reduces carbon dioxide emissions compared to petroleum-based plastics

The company's fiscal 2022 sustainability goals and key performance indicators include:

· Casio Group's greenhouse gas emissions decreased by 9.

· The sales ratio of Casio Green Star products remains above 80%;

· Reduce waste generation across the Casio Group by at least 1% compared to 2020;

· Increase the Casio Group's on-site waste recycling rate to over 95%

In addition to adding bioplastics to the PRW61-1A, Casio will also replace plastics with recycled paper in the packaging of the watch
