    Brett Martin, the UK's largest polycarbonate sheet producer, has launched its new, more sustainable Marlon BioPlus polycarbonate sheet, representing a huge shift towards climate neutral plastic sheets made from certified quality balance of sources and production of bio-based feedstocks

    This new development is the result of Brett Martin's partnership with Covestro, one of the world's leading polymer producers
    Their Makrolon® RE replaces 71% of fossil feedstocks, such as from used cooking oils, with materials with biocyclic properties (through mass balance methods)

    In addition, carbon emissions are further reduced by using green energy in the production of raw materials

    With our Makrolon® RE portfolio, Customers like Brett Martin can have the exact same quality and performance as fossil-based Makrolon® polycarbonate without changing existing production processes


    Covestro uses a mass balance approach through ISCC PLUS (International Sustainability and Carbon Certification) to assign this low carbon material to Brett Martin, enabling Brett Martin to offer customers new sheet options

    Partially moving away from fossil feedstocks, as well as providing the benefit of secondary use for bio-recycled feedstocks, allows the process to reduce the carbon footprint of Makrolon® RE by 84%
    The carbon footprint is further reduced by using 100% renewable electricity directly through Brett Martin's own dedicated wind and solar facility during the extrusion of the Marlon BioPlus sheet


    The mass balance approach provides practicality and certification to users of the Marlon BioPlus range in flat, multi-layer and corrugated polycarbonate sheet form
    This opens new doors for specifiers, processors and manufacturers to select more sustainable polycarbonates from renewable sources with a low carbon impact
