According to reports, on March 9, local time, the groundbreaking ceremony of the expansion project of Bridgestone Wilson Car Tire Factory was held
.
The project is located in North Carolina, USA, with a total investment of estimated $164 million
.
It is understood that the first and second phases of the project, with a total investment of nearly $100 million, will add 167,000 square feet of production space to accommodate new tire assembly equipment, material handling systems, vulcanizing presses and related supporting equipment
.
Bridgestone expects the plant to have a capacity of 35,000 tires
per day by 2018.
The new project will enable the plant to cope with the increased global demand for large-format tires and improve quality and production efficiency while reducing costs
.
The Wilson facility has received several safety and environmental awards
.
The plant's most recent expansion was in 1999, when 85,000 square feet of production space
were added.
Bridgestone has two passenger tire production plants in the United States, one in Canada and two in Mexico
