Following the successful start-up of Carbios' demonstration plant in Clermont-Ferrand, France, the company recently announced plans to build another larger plant, this time in Langueville
    .

If all goes well, the new reference plant will be built in partnership with Bangkok-based PET manufacturer Indorama Ventures, currently the world's largest producer of recycled PET for beverage bottles
    .
The project will combine the science and technology of Carbios and the world-class manufacturing capabilities of Indorama Ventures

    .

After completing a preliminary technical analysis of the project, Indorama Ventures selected its PET production site in Longlaville, Meurthe-et-Moselle, to conduct a feasibility study for the industrialization of the Carbios technology
    .
Due diligence will also be conducted

    .
If the results of these technical and economic assessments are favorable, Indorama Ventures will co-invest in the project

    .

Carbios' enzyme-based bioprocess, known as C-ZYME, converts PET back to its core monomer
    .
These monomers can then be used to make 100% recycled recyclable PET, helping to meet the growing demand from consumers and large consumer goods companies, including Carbios' partners and shareholders (L'Oreal, Michelin, L'Occitane, Nestle Water, PepsiCo , Suntory Beverage and Food Europe) for more sustainable packaging

    .

The new industrial-scale enzymatic PET biorecycling plant (the world's first) is estimated to have a processing capacity of around 50,000 tons
    .
50,000 tons of post-consumer PET waste is processed annually, equivalent to 2 billion PET bottles or 2.
    5 billion PET pallets

    .

The capital investment for the project is expected to be around EUR 150 million for Carbios' core technology, which includes an additional purification step that has been integrated into the process
    .
In addition, an estimated €50 million investment will be spent on the infrastructure preparation of the site

    .
The project is expected to create approximately 150 direct and indirect full-time jobs

    .

"The plant will pave the way for international commercial and industrial deployment," said Carbios CEO Emmanuel Ladent
    .

"We thank our shareholders, partners, the French government and the Grand-Est region for sharing Carbios' ambition and vision and helping us achieve a profitable circular economy"
