Chevron Phillips Chemical Company (CPChem) has become the latest member to participate in Cyclyx, a coalition-based materials management company that aims to dramatically increase the recycling of plastics after use
.
CPChem joins Cyclyx as a founding member of the consortium
.
Founded by advanced recycler Agilyx Corporation and in association with chemical giant ExxonMobil Chemical, Cyclyx is developing systems to collect and sort large volumes of plastic waste from various sources that will be used as feedstock for the production of petrochemicals, including stone Naphtha and chemical intermediates
.
Membership in the consortium aligns well with CPChem's own circular development goals: the company has announced that its annual production of ISCC PLUS-certified Marlex Anew circular polyethylene will reach 1 billion pounds by 2030
.
Dr.
Ron Abbott, CPChem's Sustainability Technology Manager, explained: "CPChem is committed to creating sustainable solutions and we believe that joining Cyclyx as a founding member will expand our ability to produce and deliver certified circular products in the years to come
.
"
Cyclyx provides third-party audited, circular, end-of-life pathways for post-consumer plastics throughout the value chain
.
Its members have access to tools such as chemical characterization of plastics, feedstock source prediction models for product paths, custom feedstock formulations, and custom supply chains
.
In April 2021, the company received post-use plastics management system certification under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Plus program
.
This certification assures customers that the plastic raw materials obtained for their processes meet post-use conditions, are traceable and auditable
.
It also certifies that Cyclyx is a circular source and allows Cyclyx customers to attribute used plastic to the production of their certified recycled plastic and other products using mass balance accounting
.
