On December 15, Clariant announced that it will expand its Care Chemicals plant in Daya Bay, Huizhou, China, to strengthen support for customers in pharmaceutical, personal and home care, and industrial applications
    .

The investment of CHF 80 million will be completed by the end of 2024 with a view to increasing the production capacity of existing products and introducing
    new products.
After successfully obtaining the GMP certificate for drugs, Clariant's Daya Bay production site has become the first API manufacturer in China to obtain polyethylene glycol (Polyglykol TM 3350) certification
    .
The facility will also serve as a hub for the new Clariant's global healthcare business, supplying
    high-quality ingredients
for the medicines that support healthcare at a faster pace.

"Clariant's commitment to strategic business development and support for our customers is exemplified by the successful production and registration of pharmaceutical-grade PEGs, as well as the resilience of our business," said
Zhigang Miao, Global Vice President, Industrial Applications Business Unit, Clariant Care Chemicals.

Clariant will also expand its existing production capacity
in Daya Bay with ethylene oxide (EODs) and a broad portfolio of chemicals.
With faster production and more sustainable ingredients, we help customers advance their environmental goals and create differentiated, more sustainable solutions that meet industry needs
    .
For example, plant-based Hostapon® mild surfactants with the Ecotain® label develop milder, cleaner beauty products for personal care brands and formulators in products such as solid beauty sticks, shower gels and cream-based
    shampoos.

"Many of the industries we serve in Daya Bay are constantly evolving, reflecting changing sustainability goals and end-product performance needs, and we want to bring our innovation and expertise closer to our customers and drive their growth," commented Christian Wang, Global President of Clariant Care Chemicals to upgrade it to a multi-purpose plant/ethylene oxide derivatives production base
    .
This underscores our commitment to supporting our customers' success
    with more indigenous innovations.

Clariant already made a series of investments
in Daya Bay prior to the Care Chemicals business unit's investment in strengthening its ethoxy chemical plant in China.
In October 2022, Clariant announced that it will add a second line to its future halogen-free flame retardant additive plant, the first of which is currently under construction and scheduled to be operational in mid-2023, with a second line due in 2024
