Clariant wins major contract for supply of petrochemical catalysts from Lihuayi Group

●The contract covers OleMax® 101, StyroMax® UL3 and CATOFIN® high performance catalysts for ethylene, styrene and propylene production respectively

Clariant's Catalysts business unit has been awarded three new contracts from Lihuayi Group for its upcoming addition of petrochemical production units

The comprehensive agreement includes three high-performance catalysts from Clariant for the production of ethylene, styrene and propylene

In Clariant's robust line of ethylene catalysts, Lihuayi has selected the OleMax 101 for its 1 million tpy olefins plant to recover high-value olefins from cracked gas and waste gas streams
.
The OleMax 100 series catalysts are capable of removing multiple impurities such as acetylene, dienes, oxygen, nitrogen oxides and heavy metals in a single reactor for cost-effective olefin production
.

Clariant's new StyroMax UL 3 ribbed styrene catalyst is used in the new 720,000-ton-per-year styrene plant of Lihuayi
.
The catalyst can produce styrene monomer extremely efficiently due to its high activity, excellent selectivity, and reliable performance under ultra-low water-oil ratio conditions
.
Taken together, these factors help producers produce higher yields of high-quality styrene with greater efficiency, lower energy consumption and lower CO2 emissions
.

The third plant under the agreement is a propane dehydrogenation unit with a design capacity of 600,000 tons, using Clariant's tailor-made CATOFIN catalyst and heat generating materials (HGM)
.
CATOFIN is an extremely reliable dehydrogenation catalyst for the production of olefins such as propylene or isobutylene from light paraffinic feedstocks
.
Since 2017, CATOFIN technology and catalysts have been selected for 33 new projects worldwide, adding more than 23 million tonnes of propylene capacity
.
More than half of these projects are or will be built in China
.
