According to the Hong Kong Commercial Daily, the groundbreaking ceremony for Hong Kong’s first quasi-food-grade plastic recycling facility was held on September 2 The plastic recycling facility was built in Lot T6, Tuen Mun Environmental Pa.
Upon completion in 2020, the facility will process and recycle 35,000 metric tons of waste PET plastic (polyethylene terephthalate or beverage plastic bottles) and HDPE plastic (high density polyethylene or personal care product plastic containers) annual.
"Plastic New Life" is jointly built by Baguio Waste Treatment and Recycling Company, Swire Coca-Cola and ALBA Gro.

The new facility has three processing processes that convert sorted PET and HDPE plastics into quasi-food-grade rPET flakes and high-end rHDPE pellets for high-quality consumer or industrial products as raw materia.
He Yili, CEO of Swire Coca-Cola, said that in 2017, Swire Coca-Cola launched the "Waste Free Drink" initiative, and made a series of commitments, including the use of rPET reconstituted rubber to manufacture all "Flying Snow" mineral water bottles in Hong Kong, and to set up all the water bottles in Hong Ko.
