Deutsche Post has announced that the group has begun mass production of StreetScooter electric vehicles, with the goal of producing the first 2,000 vehicles by the end of 2016 to replace the existing 30,000 vehicles
.
A Deutsche Post spokesman said electric vehicles are well suited for certain types of deliveries
.
While the Group cannot simply ditch ordinary cars and use all electric vehicles, the Group needs to have a clear understanding of where it can use electric vehicles
.
Theoretically, 30,000 cars in the delivery fleet could be
replaced.
But replacing these vehicles is a long-term, asymptotic process, and it also depends on when the contract expires for existing diesel vehicles and older vehicles
.
The company will gradually and continuously deploy some additional vehicles, and the exact timing of the completion of the deployment has not yet been finalized
.
While Deutsche Post is producing StreetScooter electric vehicles for its own delivery fleet, it is also considering the possibility
of selling electric vehicles to companies in the future.
This is theoretically possible, and the company is interested in the commercialization of these vehicles, and some companies have approached the company and expressed their willingness
to buy.
But for now, the company's priority is to meet its own needs
.
The StreetScooter electric vehicle was developed in a short period of time by Deutsche Post in cooperation with the University of Aachen, and is now in its third mass production
.
At the same time, the development and design of electric vehicles also refers to the feedback of delivery employees, who have shown from experience how the design will be better and how it can be different
.
Whenever necessary, the company adjusts the design
of the car at any time.
