    At a press conference held during SNEC 2016 in Shanghai, Michael Shoemaker, Global Strategic Marketing Manager for Dow's Elastomers Division, said the company is advancing its elastomer business, focusing on PV module sealant film raw materials for the Chinese market, in line
    with the rapid development of China's PV industry.

    Unlike EVA thin film materials currently commonly used by PV module manufacturers, Dow wants to encourage Chinese encapsulation film companies to use its ENGAGE POE materials
    .
    The company's research found that compared to EVA films, POE films, such as those made of ENGAGE, have better electrical performance, lower water vapor transfer speed, and better
    weather resistance.
    POEs also significantly reduce the potential-induced attenuation effect (PID) and are becoming increasingly popular
    for N-type cell modules and double-glazed modules.

    Regarding the additional cost of replacing EVA with film made of POE, Mr.
    Shoemaker did not mention it during the meeting, but according to relevant industry insiders, the additional cost is 3-5%
    of the price of photovoltaic modules.
    This is relatively cheap
    compared to the advantages and added value that POE brings to users.

    The film made of POE is not as highly used as EVA and is still in the initial stage
    of the market.
    There are not many raw material suppliers that can supply this chemical sealant film, but Dow is one of them
