Royal DSM and Clariant have announced an agreement whereby DSM will take over certain parts of Clariant's 3D printing business portfolio
.
The companies believe the agreement enables DSM to rapidly provide customers with development iterations for filament and pellet products, based on application needs
.
As additive manufacturing technology is increasingly used in industrial production, customers are looking for materials that match their existing product portfolio and production process
.
The imminent integration of these assets enables DSM to strengthen its portfolio of engineered filaments, granules and powders
.
In addition, customers benefit from faster product adjustments to application needs as the Clariant team has extensive experience in rapid and market-driven product development using dedicated, highly flexible and high-speed compounding equipment
.
The deal includes part of Clariant's 3D printing team, their product portfolio, engineering-grade filament and granular materials, customer relationships, expertise in powder development, and a small production line for rapid volume production in small batches
.
Hugo da Silva, Vice President Additive Manufacturing at DSM, said: “We are delighted to welcome new team members and the expertise they bring to expand our range of services
.
Richard Haldimann, Head of Sustainability Transformation at Clariant, added: “Following a comprehensive strategic review, Clariant has concluded that its 3D printing materials business is no longer aligned with its strategic priorities
