Recently, Eastman announced that the company will build the world's largest "plastic-to-plastic" molecular recycling facility in Kingsport, Tennessee, USA, where its headquarters is located.
Polyester waste from waterways is converted into durable goods, creating an optimized circular economy system
.
The recycling unit, which is expected to be mechanically completed by the end of 2022, will help Eastman meet its ambitious sustainability goals and address the plastic waste crisis
.
It is reported that with Eastman's polyester recycling technology, the new device will process more than 100,000 tons of plastic waste that cannot be recycled by physical methods at present, and finally make high-quality special plastics containing recycled components
.
“As demand for products with recycled content continues to grow, and the global plastic waste crisis needs to be addressed, Eastman must take this step and build this recycling facility,” Costa said
.
According to reports, as one of the pioneers in the commercial development of methanol decomposition technology, Eastman has more than 30 years of expertise in innovative recycling technology
.
"The new recycling facility is an important step in Eastman's circular economy strategy,
" Costa said.
