Eswatini state-owned power utility Eswatini Electric Power Company (SEC) issued a tender to build a 10-megawatt solar park
    in the southeastern Rafmisa region.

Eswatini Power was looking for the services of an EPC contractor to design, build and commission the project and all the necessary grid infrastructure to bring it online
    .
The solar park will be developed in two phases, each with a capacity of 5 MW
    .
The solar park will connect to the Maloma substation
, located about 11 kilometers north of the project site.

Eswatini Power also said in the tender documents that three potential construction sites
have been identified for the project so far in the Nhlalukane area.
The deadline for bids is June 27
    , 2018.

Eswatini Water Company (SWSC) launched a tender in January to seek consultants to conduct a feasibility study
    on the project.

The solar park project will be developed
in accordance with the Eswatini Independent Power Producer Policy.
The policy is a new strategy developed by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy to increase the proportion of renewable energy in the energy mix to 50%
    by 2030.

Meanwhile, Eswatini remains heavily dependent on electricity imports from Mozambique and South Africa through the Southern African Electricity Union (SAPP), as Eswatini Power's current generation assets can only meet 10%
of the country's 60 MW electricity demand.
