ExxonMobil has completed the first commercial sale of a certified circular polymer using its Exxtend technology for advanced recycling of plastic waste
    .
The buyer is Berry Global, a leading supplier of innovative packaging and engineered products, which will use circular polymers to manufacture containers for high-performance food-grade packaging in a mass-balanced manner
    .

"We are expanding our advanced recycling capabilities globally to make more recycled products for our customers," said Karen McKee, president of ExxonMobil Chemical
    .
"Our Exxtend technology helps us meet the requirements for certified circular Growing demand for polymers, especially in food contact applications where plastic products offer key sustainability benefits
    .
    "

Exxtend technology helps to expand the scope of society's recycling of plastic materials, while maintaining product performance across multiple recycling cycles
    .
Certified round polymers have the same product quality and performance as polymers produced from virgin raw materials, increasing the variety and number of customer applications
    .

"We have ambitious sustainable packaging goals, including achieving 30% circular content in our FMCG packaging by 2030," said Tarun Manroa, chief strategy officer at Berry Global
    .
"Advanced recycling can help our customers achieve their sustainability goals and accelerate the move to a more circular economy
    .
Collaboration across the value chain is critical to achieving this
    .
    "

The first sale of certified circular polymers is based on plastic waste processed at ExxonMobil's state-of-the-art recycling facility at its integrated facility in Baytown, Texas
    .
The facility, which begins operations in 2021, has already processed more than 4 million pounds of plastic waste
    .

The company has certified several facilities, including Baytown, through the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification Upgrade (ISCC PLUS) process
    .

ISCC PLUS is widely recognized by the industry as an effective system to demonstrate the circularity of products based on advanced recycling using mass balance attribution of plastic waste
