1.
Moisture flammable items refer to items that undergo a violent chemical reaction and emit a large amount of flammable gas (such as hydrogen , acetylene , methane , phosphine , silicon tetrahydride, borane, etc.
Common flammable when wet are: lithium, sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium, alkali metals, alkaline earth metals and their hydrides such as sodium hydride , potassium hydride , calcium hydride, sodium amalgam, zinc amalgam, etc.
2.
Except for some differences in reactivity, flammable materials and spontaneously combustible materials are basically the same in many aspects, including hazardous characteristics
(1) It is flammable and explosive in contact with water
When wet and flammable materials encounter water, a violent oxidation-reduction reaction occurs.
The highly reactive ones are sodium metal, sodium hydride, borane (also a self-igniting substance) and so on
Some flammable items are slightly less reactive when wet, such as sodium borohydride (potassium, lithium) and aluminum hydride , which can be packaged in plastic bags or glass bottles
In addition, some flammable materials such as methyl lithium (sodium) and calcium carbide (aluminum) will generate methane and acetylene gas when wet, and will gradually decompose if the packaging is not tight
(2) Violent reactivity with oxidants and acids
Because most of the flammable items when wet are highly reducing items, when they come into contact with oxidants or acids, they can react more violently than with water, generate a lot of heat, increase the reaction temperature faster, and are more dangerous.
(3) Toxic
Some flammable materials are toxic when wet
