China Petroleum & Chemical News Network reported on May 30 that the German Ministry of Economy and Transport said on Friday that Germany will provide up to $10 billion in federal and state funding for 62 large-scale hydrogen projects to become the world’s hydrogen technology.

    Germany will provide 9.

German Economy Minister Peter Altmaier stated that Germany hopes to become a global leader in hydrogen technology and pointed out that the investment announced today is a step towards making the German economy carbon neutral.

Altmaier said that by using hydrogen, Germany can save millions of tons of carbon dioxide emissions from the steelmaking and chemical industries every year.

Transport Minister Andreas Scheuer added: "We are making Germany a hydrogen country.

Scheuer said that 95% of Germany's road traffic still relies on fossil fuels, so Germany needs to rely on renewable energy for transportation.

The Minister of Transportation said: "We must and hope to promote the shift to climate-friendly transportation as soon as possible.

Germany wants to become a global leader in hydrogen technology, Economy Minister Peter Altmaier said, noting that the investment announced today is a step toward making Germany's economy carbon neutral.

Through the use of hydrogen, Germany could save several million tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions annually from the steelmaking and chemicals industries, Altmaier said.
