Sinochem News, according to hydrocarbon processing news on March 15, announced a strategic partnership between Genomatica and Japan’s Asahi Kasei, which will be made from Genomatica’s bio-based hexamethylenediamine (HMD) components.
Commercialization of nylon 6,6 as a renewable resource
    .
Through this partnership, Asahi Kasei hopes to support its goal of providing the automotive and electronics industries with more sustainable nylon 6,6 based on plant-based HMDs and to accelerate the achievement of its corporate sustainability goals

    .

HMD is a key component of nylon 6,6 (also known as polyamide 6,6) and many other types of nylon, with a global market of 2 million tons/year
    .
Traditional HMDs are made from fossil fuels such as crude oil or natural gas

    .

Building on GENOMATICA's recently announced breakthrough in the successful production of high-volume plant-based HMDs, Asahi Kasei intends to apply the GENO HMD process technology to manufacture more sustainable products such as high-temperature automotive parts, electronics, or yarns used to produce airbags.

Leveraging Asahi Kasei's experience in developing successful nylon applications, Asahi Kasei will prioritize access to early-stage renewable-sourced HMDs and conduct nylon application testing

    .

Christophe Schilling, CEO of Ginomatica, said: "Just as the sustainable energy transition is revolutionizing the way we live, we are at the beginning of a sustainable materials transition that will revolutionize the products we use every day and where they come from.

    .
    "

Ginomatica develops complete, integrated process and manufacturing plant designs that utilize biotechnology, fermentation and renewable feedstocks to manufacture widely used ingredients and materials with lower carbon footprints
    .
Asahi Kasei hopes Ginomatica's innovations will help the company achieve its goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2050
