On April 15, 2022, the U.
S.
Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) finalized data requirements for efficacy testing of certain pesticide products
.
Currently, US EPA has formally incorporated the efficacy requirements of some pesticide products against invertebrate pests into the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR)
.
Completion of this work will accelerate the approval process for US EPA pesticide registration and will significantly reduce the time and cost of pesticide applicants throughout the registration cycle
.
Not only that, the updated efficacy test data requirements make it easier for relevant pesticide product applicants to understand the specific efficacy data to be submitted, so as to be consistent with their corresponding label claims
.
As these requirements are formally added to the CFR, they help ensure that data submitted meets official needs and scientific standards, and also meets the requirements of the Pesticide Registration Improvement Act of 2018 (PRIA 4)
.
The final clarification of the efficacy requirements for pesticide products is expected to save applicants $17,000 each time by reducing unnecessary tests
.
In this determination of efficacy requirements, the pesticide products covered are mainly used to control the following three types of invertebrate pests:
l Pests (such as ticks, mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc.
) that have been identified as causing significant harm to public health;
l wood-damaging insects (such as termites);
• Certain invasive alien invertebrate pests (eg, Asian longhorned beetles)
.
