H1 Global Green Bond Issuance Reached a Record US$117 Billion

Global credit rating agency Moody's said today that the global green bond market hit a record high in the second quarter of 2019 as issuers brought $66.
6 billion of green bonds to the global market, driving issuance to a record $117 billion
in the first half of 2019.

In its latest report, Moody's said, "Following a strong performance so far this year, the green bond market is still on track to exceed the 2019 forecast
of $200 billion in total issuance.
" ”

Moody's added that issuance in the first half of the year was 47% higher than the same period in 2018, while issuance in the first half of 2018 increased by about
11% compared to the same period in 2017.

This growth persisted
despite a 1.
9% decline in global bond issuance over the same period.
Enterprises were the largest contributors to the overall issuance, with non-financial corporate issuance of US$14.
9 billion and financial corporate issuance of US$13.
6 billion, accounting for 22% and 20%
of the total, respectively.

"Supported by the initial $6.
7 billion sovereign green bond issuance by the Dutch government, Europe performed well in the first half of the year, accounting for 54%
of total global issuance," the report said.
"At the same time, green bond issuance in China and India expanded
rapidly after the national green bond guidelines came into effect.
