British developer Hive Energy has obtained planning permission to develop the first subsidy-free 45.
6 MW solar project
in the Spanish province of Andalusia.
When completed, the project will power the equivalent of 32,000 homes and will be connected
to the national grid via a 132kV Endesa substation 500 meters from the site.
Construction of the project will begin in late spring 2018
.
Hive Energy released that the approval marks the development trend
of unsubsidized solar parks in Spain.
After a long period of faults, the Spanish solar industry has indeed once again achieved gratuitous projects and the multi-gigawatt capacity
auctioned by the Ministry of Energy last year.
Hive is already a pioneer in subsidy-free solar projects in the UK, with plans to build a 40MW plant in Hampshire and a 350MW project
in Kent through a partnership with EPC company Wirsol.
The head of Hive Energy said: "Hive Energy's dominant position in the Spanish solar market originated in 2015
.
Back in 2015, there were very few
developers developing solar energy in Spain.
Three years later, the market became one of
the most attractive solar markets in the world.
”
The company currently has 14 solar projects in Spain with a total capacity of 896 MW
.
It also has 20 pipeline projects, which are expected to begin
in the next two years.
