On July 14, 2021, Hyosung Corporation, the world's largest spandex manufacturer, released a new Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) result on the environmental performance of its 100% recycled creora® regen spandex and virgin creora spandex.
Compare
.
The research was carried out by third-party certifier Networks Y, a South Korean life cycle assessment consultancy, which calculated the carbon footprint—the amount of carbon dioxide emitted over the entire life cycle of the product—for both fibers throughout their manufacturing stages
.
The study concluded that creora® regen spandex reduces CO2 production by about 67%, or about two-thirds, compared to producing 1 kg of creora® spandex
.
“We know our creora® regen is unique because we only use 100% recycled content for production, and our life cycle assessment helps quantify the importance of using recycled content
.
” Mike Simko, Global Marketing Director, Hyosung Textiles Business say
.
Since Hyosung Corporation launched creora® regen spandex in January 2020, the company has produced an amount of fiber equivalent to the amount of carbon dioxide emitted by driving around the earth 1,000 times
.
Likewise, the greenhouse gas (GHG) uptake impact of creora® regen production is equivalent to the amount of GHG uptake by mature pine trees sufficient to cover the San Francisco Presidio, the largest urban national park in the world
.
Presidio is a nearly 1,500-acre park in San Francisco
.
Hyosung's creora® regen spandex is certified by GRS, HIGGS MSI and Oeko-tex
.
The company is in the process of obtaining a Material Health Certificate under the "Circular Production" certified product standard
