According to the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), China dominates the nearly 56 GW of wind capacity added in the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) in 2020, reaching 52 GW
of annual new capacity.
After breaking any country's wind energy installation record, China now has more wind power than Europe, Africa, the Middle East and Latin America combined
, GWEC said.
The organization's preliminary data shows that China's cumulative installed wind power capacity is 288,320 megawatts
.
"We expect the expiration of the onshore wind feed-in tariff subsidy at the end of 2020 to be the main factor contributing to the peak of wind power capacity in China, but the performance of China's wind power market still exceeds our expectations by 73%
," GWEC said.
”
By the end of 2020, the Asia-Pacific region had added 55,564 MW of new wind power capacity, a year-on-year increase of 78%, and the cumulative installed wind power capacity was close to 347 GW
.
India is the second-largest wind power market in the Asia-Pacific region, with 1,119 megawatts of new annual installations, but this is the country's lowest installation record since 2004 due to regulatory and infrastructure bottlenecks
.
In addition to the above two countries, the countries and regions with more than 100 MW of new wind power installed capacity in 2020 also include Australia 1097 MW, Japan 449 MW, Kazakhstan 300 MW, South Korea 160 MW, Vietnam 125 MW, New Zealand 103 MW.
