The information sensed by fiber optic cables is considered "noise", and Eric Rodenbeck of Stamen Design in San Francisco recently realized that underground fiber optic cables can detect various activities on the ground, which can be used to track the movement of

With funding from London's V&A Museum, Steman Design extracted data from a 3-kilometer fiber optic cable beneath the Stanford University campus to visualize
its detections.
