Automotive, electronics and consumer goods are among the growth drivers driving the demand for engineering plastics in India

This has prompted global suppliers to expand their presence in the Indian subcontinent, including BASF and Covestro
.
BASF is increasing its Ultramid polyamide (PA) grade capacity in Panori, Gujarat, which is expected to start production in the fourth quarter of 2022
.
"The additional capacity reaffirms our determination to be our customers' preferred polyamide supplier and will help us meet the rapidly growing demand for Ultramid polyamide grades in India
.
This will correspondingly shorten local lead times and help us better meet the needs of OEMs,
” said Andy Postlethwaite, Senior Vice President Performance Materials Asia Pacific at BASF

BASF is also increasing its PA capacity in Pasir Gudang, Malaysia, and it will also expand its Ultradur polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) capacity
.
The two expansion projects should be completed in the second quarter of 2023 and will add a total of 5,000 tonnes of annual capacity
.
“The additional capacity will help us meet the strong market demand for Ultramid PA and Ultradur PBT products and strengthen our market position, especially in ASEAN,” Postlethwaite said
.
The ASEAN engineering plastics market is expected to grow between 2020 and 2030.
