Indonesia lifted the rule that coal exports must be shipped by the state

Indonesia's coordinating minister for maritime and investment affairs, Luhut Pandjaitan, told reporters on Wednesday that the Indonesian government would revoke rules
requiring coal and palm oil exporters to use national shipping companies for transportation.

Indonesia, the world's largest exporter of thermal coal, issued regulations in 2018 requiring its coal and palm oil exporters to use domestic shipping companies
from May.

Luhut Pandjaitan said the government has since concluded that the regulation will cause damage to exports and that General Joko Widodo has ordered the revocation of the regulation
.

"In the current situation, we should not destroy exports, so the president decided at a recent meeting that this provision
from the Ministry of Trade should be revoked," he said.

Earlier, the Indonesian Coal Miners' Association said that Indonesia's transport companies do not have enough ships to meet Indonesia's fuel export demand, which will cause great constraints
on exports.

The Indonesian Coal Miners' Association said last month that many Japanese coal buyers had sourced coal
from other countries and regions due to uncertainty over the implementation rules.

According to government planning, Indonesia plans to export 395 million tons of coal
in 2020.
