On July 19, Shanghai Chemical Industry Park Industrial Gas Co.
    , Ltd.
(SCIPIG), a subsidiary of Air Liquide Group, announced that it will invest more than 200 million euros to build two new hydrogen production plants and supporting facilities in Shanghai Chemical Industry Park

    .
The new plant design will replace an existing third-party coal-to-gas plant, equipped with carbon dioxide recycling technology and connected to SCIPIG's existing pipeline network, resulting in significant environmental benefits

    .
SCIPIG currently operates two other hydrogen production units and four air separation units at the park

    .

According to reports, under a contract of more than 15 years, the new unit will produce hydrogen and carbon monoxide to supply Covestro China and Shanghai Lianheng Isocyanate Co.
    , Ltd.
(SLIC, a joint venture mainly invested by BASF and Huntsman) in the park.
and other industrial and electronic customers in the Yangtze River Delta region

    .
The combined hydrogen production capacity of the two units will be around 70,000 Nm3/h

    .
The carbon dioxide captured and recovered by the supporting device can be recycled and used as a raw material for carbon monoxide production, increasing the total carbon monoxide production capacity to 28,000 Nm/h

    .

The two steam methane reforming hydrogen production units (SMR) will be designed and constructed by Air Liquide Engineering and Manufacturing and are planned to be put into operation in batches, with the first phase to be commissioned by the end of 2023
    .
The new unit will not only replace a third-party coal-to-gas unit, but will also be equipped with a carbon recycling unit and integrated into SCIPIG's existing local pipeline network

    .
It can avoid 350,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year, which is equivalent to the carbon emissions of 1 million Chinese households

    .
The integration of the production unit into SCIPIG's local pipeline network will further enhance the reliability and flexibility of the gas supply

    .

It is understood that since 1996, Air Liquide has been actively participating in the development and construction of Shanghai Chemical Industry Park
    .
The park covers an area of 29.
    4 square kilometers.
Many international and domestic large-scale chemical companies have settled in the park, and a number of world-leading petrochemical industry projects have been built.
It is adjacent to one of the busiest ports in the world - Shanghai Yangshan Port

    .
Air Liquide previously announced a joint venture with Shenergy Group and SCIP to supply hydrogen to hydrogen refueling stations in the Yangtze River Delta region, supporting the region's fast-growing hydrogen vehicle market, and the hydrogen source will come from SCIPIG

    .

Air Liquide’s Group Executive Committee member, which oversees the Asia Pacific region, said: “The new investment further strengthens Air Liquide’s long-term partnership with Covestro, SLIC and the Shanghai Chemical Industry Park
    .
This project demonstrates our ability to provide our customers with competitive, reliable, environmentally friendly solutions

    .
As experts in industrial decarbonisation, Air Liquide is proud to support Shanghai's ambitious climate plans with this project

    .
    "

It is worth mentioning that on July 12, Air Liquide announced to invest in the first biomethane production plant in China, which will be put into operation by the end of 2022
    .

Located in Huai'an City, Jiangsu Province, the device will collect agricultural and livestock waste from local farms for biogas production and purification into biomethane
    .
The unit has a total capacity of 75 GWh/year, and the biomethane can be injected into the city gas grid for domestic use

    .
At the same time, the biogas is also used to generate electricity, supplying power to the device, and connecting it to the grid

    .

Air Liquide's technologies cover the entire biomethane value chain, from the production of biogas from waste, the purification of biogas into biomethane, to the liquefaction, storage, transport and distribution of biomethane
    .
Air Liquide currently owns and operates 21 biomethane production units around the world with an annual capacity of approximately 1.
    4 TWh
