Irish utility ESB has announced a plan to transform its site at Moneypoint's coal-fired power station on Ireland's west coast into a green energy hub
    with a 1.
4 GW floating offshore wind farm.

The wind farm will be developed in two phases by ESB and Norway's Equinor Energy, an experienced floating wind company that entered into a partnership
with ESB in 2019 for Ireland's offshore wind collaboration.

The wind farm is expected to be operational within the next decade, when it will be able to power
    more than 1.
    6 million Irish homes.

The multi-billion euro transition plan will support the Irish government's commitment
to achieving net zero emissions by 2050.
    This is part of
    ESB's "Bright Future" strategy.

Because Moneypoint has a deep-water port, ESB plans to use it as a manufacturing and assembly center
    for floating wind turbines.

The ESB also intends to invest in green hydrogen production, storage and power generation facilities
at the site by the end of the century.

Pat O'Doherty, chief executive of the ESB, said: "We have long said we want to stop burning coal
    at Moneypoint.
Today, we are releasing the redefined Moneypoint plan, which will not only create hundreds of jobs, but also help Ireland meet its climate goals and maintain a secure electricity supply for the future
