Issue 17/2017 - Hydrophobic pyrogenic silica and VAE dispersions for dispensing open up multiple application avenues

WAKNER recently presented two hydrophobic HDK-pyrogenic silicas and VAE dispersions
for adhesive dispensing at Adhesives & Sealants China 2017.

HDK?H30RY is a hydrophobic silica modified with methacrylic acid that chemically bonds into the resin network structure to improve the mechanical properties and scratch resistance of vinyl, polyester or acrylate-based systems, opening up a wide range of applications
such as coatings, adhesives and sealants.
In addition, it improves the performance of
dental fillings and nail gels.

HDK?H20RH is a high specific surface area hydrophobic silica
retreated with alkyl silanes.
As a siloxane-free additive with excellent rheological properties in polar systems, it can extend the storage time of epoxy resins and two-component adhesive curing agents, especially to improve the storage stability
of amine curing agents.
Applications include automotive adhesives, half-shell binders for wind turbine blades and chemical anchors
