On October 8, Saudi Aramco and Total signed a joint development agreement in Dharam, which will design front-end engineering for a world-class petrochemical plant project in Jubail, on Saudi
Arabia's east coast.
The petrochemical plant will include a cracker designed to produce 1.
5 million tons of ethylene per year for mixed feed and associated high value-added petrochemical production unit
.
The feed to the cracker includes 50% ethane and refinery exhaust
.
This will be the first petrochemical plant project
in the Gulf to be integrated with a refinery.
The project has an investment of about 5 billion US dollars and is expected to be completed and put into operation
in 2024.
