    The United States has developed an all-solid-state lithium-sulfur battery with high energy density

    Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) have designed and tested an all-solid-state lithium-sulfur battery with an energy density of about 4 times
    that of lithium-ion batteries currently widely used in electronic devices.
    And the battery design uses a lot of low-cost sulfur, while also solving the flammability problem
    that other chemists have been worried about.

    The ORNL research team synthesized a new sulfur-rich substance and used it as a cathode for batteries, which can conduct lithium ions and sulfur metal lithiides used in traditional battery cathodes, and combined it with an anode made of lithium and a solid electrolyte (also developed by ORNL researchers) to create this energy-dense all-solid-state battery

    The test results show that the new battery can maintain the capacitance at 1200 mA hours / g after 300 charge and discharge cycles at a temperature of 60 °C, while the average capacitance of the traditional lithium-ion battery is 140~170 mA hours / g

    Chengdu Liang, the leader of the study, said that because lithium-sulfur batteries carry half the voltage of lithium-ion batteries and have an average capacitance of 8 times, the energy density of the new battery is about 4 times
    that of traditional lithium-ion batteries.
