Issue 24, 2017 - LANXESS begins trial operation of on-site production of retanning agents

LANXESS started commissioning of on-site retanning agents and started practical operation of a pilot plant
for the on-site production of X-Biomer retanning
agents.
The modular system was installed at the HELLER-LEDER tannery in Helen, Lower Saxony, and successfully produced the first ton of high-quality liquid X-Biomer
under real operating conditions using two cubic metres of white wet dander.
The joint project, called "Resource-Efficient Production of Leather Chemicals" (ReeL), is carried out by LANXESS in cooperation with INVITE and HELLER-LEDER and is funded
by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
TRIAL RUNS OF THE HELLER-LEDER WILL CONTINUE UNTIL THE END OF
2018.

Dr.
Dietrich Tegtmeyer, project manager at LANXESS, said: "This is an important milestone
for our technology project.
Now is
the time to further refine the technology and demonstrate the value of the new X-Biomer products in a wide range of different leather products.
