Honeywell recently announced that its new Solstice® refrigerant for supermarket freezing has been listed on the R&D 100 list sponsored by R&D magazine
.
Among them, Solstice N40 (R-448A) refrigerant has been evaluated by Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the United States to replace refrigerant products
with high global warming potential used in various supermarkets.
Solstice N40 refrigerant, also known as R-448A, has a global warming potential (GWP) 68%
lower than R-404A.
Compared with R-404A, the energy consumption of Solstice N40 in low-temperature applications is reduced by at least 3 percentage points when piloted in European and American supermarkets, and 5~16 percentage points
in medium-temperature refrigeration applications.
Compared to the R-22 modified refrigerant, Solstice N40 exhibits similar system performance
.
Whether replacing R-22 or R-404A, Solstice N40 can be considered by supermarkets as an almost drop-in replacer.
The refrigerant is non-flammable (ASHRAE A1) and does not deplete the ozone layer
.
In a comprehensive assessment of supermarket refrigeration under controlled conditions conducted at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the Solstice N40 had lower energy consumption but higher
cooling capacity than R-404A.
