California Proposition 65 updates list of toxic and hazardous substances

The California Office of Environmental and Health Risk Assessment (OEHHA) recently issued a notice to include α-methylstyrene and 1,3-dinitropyrene on the California 65 list of
    toxic and hazardous substances.

α-methylstyrene can be used in the production of coatings, plasticizers, solvents, and also has applications
    in organic synthesis.
The International Association for Research on Cancer (IARC) concluded that there is sufficient evidence that α-methylstyrene and 1,3-dinitropyrene are carcinogenic to laboratory animals and meet the requirements of sections 6382(b)(1) and (d) of the Labour Code to classify them as carcinogenic or potential carcinogens
    .
The proposal for α-methylstyrene and 1,3-dinitropyrene to be included in the list of toxic and harmful substances was accepted for public consultation
as early as September 14~October 15 this year.
During this period, the California Office of Environmental and Health Risk Assessment did not receive any objections
    .
As of November 2, 2012, there were 893 substances on California's 65 list of toxic and hazardous substances
    .
