Mitsubishi Chemical conducts biomaterial composting experiments

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) announced that it will conduct biomaterial composting experiments in cooperation with Gamba Osaka of the Japan Football League (J1 League) to verify the cycling performance
    of the company's biodegradable resins.

In this experiment, MCC will supply polybutylene succinate (PBS) paper cups for the 2022 season at Suita Stadium, home of Gamba Osaka, with a supply of 100,000
    paper cups per game.
After the game, the discarded paper cups will be fermented
together with the food scraps at the food scraps fermentation and decomposition plant in the stadium.
The primary fermentation will be transported by Mitsubishi Chemical to the compost plant for the second and third fermentation and converted into compost
that can be used to grow crops.

According to MCC, PBS is a biodegradable resin derived from plants that was developed and holds a basic patent
    by the company.
The PBS material used this time, produced by a joint venture between Mitsubishi Chemical and PTT Global Chemical of Thailand, can replace the polyethylene waterproof laminate on the inside of the paper cup, thereby improving the recyclability of
    the paper cup.
