Total Energies launches 3D carbon capture pilot project
On March 22, a new "3D" carbon capture pilot project from ArcelorMittal's Dunkirk site began operations
for carbon dioxide (CO2) capture from industrial activities at ArcelorMittal's Dunkirk site.
The project, funded by the European Union's Horizon 2020 Research and Innovation Programme at a cost of 14.
7 million euros, aims to decarbonize industries such as steel that are difficult to reduce carbon emissions, validating replicable carbon capture technology solutions, including the DMX carbon capture process
developed by the French Institute for Petroleum and New Energy (IFPEN).
The project was announced in 2019, the main modules of the pilot project were delivered and assembled in December 2021 at ArcelorMittal's Dunkirk plant, and once the connection with the plant is complete, the unit is now ready for start-up
.
During the demonstration phase, the pilot project will capture 0.
5 tons of carbon dioxide per hour, equivalent to more than
4,000 tons per year.
