Celanese
recently said it will significantly expand methanol capacity at its Lake Clear acetyl intermediate manufacturing facility in Pasadena
, Texas.

The Clear Lake methanol plant is commissioned by a joint venture between Celanese and Mitsui Chemicals with an annual capacity of 1.
3 million tons
.
Celanese has received approval from the joint venture board for the second phase of the expansion, increasing production to 1.
7 million tonnes
.
The expansion project will be implemented as soon as feasible and subject to routine supervision and approvals
.
In conjunction with the expansion, Celanese and Mitsui will evaluate other cost-effective expansion options
for the unit.
