Construction of three-dimensional grid structure frame materials based on orthogonal array dynamic screening mechanism

Construction of three-dimensional grid structure frame materials based on orthogonal array dynamic screening mechanism

News from Sinochem News on August 2, from the School of Chemistry and Materials of Jinan University, the research team of Professor Weigang Lu and Professor Li Dan of the Institute has achieved new breakthroughs in the research of propylene/propane separation technology
    .

For the metal-organic framework material (MOF) material, they proposed the orthogonal array dynamic screening mechanism for the first time, and constructed a framework material (JNU-3) based on this separation mechanism, which provides a green solution for the efficient separation of propylene/propane

According to Zeng Heng, a member of the research team and a PhD student at Jinan University, “The material has a three-dimensional grid structure.
The inner one-dimensional channel is on both sides of neatly arranged molecular pockets.
The molecular pockets and the one-dimensional channel are connected by a dynamic gourd-shaped window.

When the gas diffuses rapidly in the one-dimensional channel, the molecular pockets selectively capture propylene molecules through the gourd-shaped window, so as to obtain a better propylene/propane separation effect
    .

    "

The team’s research data shows that when using JNU-3 material, the propylene/propane (50/50) mixture flows through the packed bed at a total flow rate of 1 ml/min at 298K, and the purity of the collected propane is not less than 99.

    99%.

Propylene is one of the most basic organic chemical raw materials, with an annual output of more than 100 million tons
    .

Propane cracking is a traditional technical route for propylene production

MOF is a new class of crystalline porous materials with definite composition and structure formed by self-assembly of metal nodes and organic ligands
    .

Compared with traditional porous materials, MOF has attracted wide interest of scientific researchers by virtue of its designable and tailorable frame and rich and diverse pore structure

To this end, based on the previous research, the research team proposed an orthogonal array dynamic screening mechanism for MOF materials, which achieved precise control of the frame material assembly and physical properties
    .

According to Zeng Heng, the frame material has the advantages of precise structure and significant separation performance

In the next step, the research team will continue to develop materials that preferentially adsorb propane.
