    On March 22, 2021, Honeywell announced that Lotte GS Chemicals will use Honeywell UOP's Q-Max™, Phenol 3G and Evonik MSHP process technologies to produce phenol and acetone at its chemical site in Yeosu, South Korea, Its annual output will exceed 565,000 tons

    UOP will provide solutions for technology licensing, basic engineering design, key equipment, catalysts and adsorbents, and technical services for the project

    As part of the project, UOP will provide a cumene unit, a phenol unit and alpha-methylstyrene (AMS) hydrogenation technology

    "Global market demand for plastics and resins such as polystyrene, styrenic resins, polycarbonates and phenolic resins is increasing, driving demand for aromatic derivatives," said Honeywell UOP Global Vice President and General Manager of Process Technology Bryan Glover said, "By increasing production of phenol and acetone, Lotte Chemical can not only enhance its position in the high-margin petrochemical market, but also increase the global market supply

    Cumene is the basic raw material for the production of phenol and its derivatives

    UOP's phenol 3G plant can convert cumene into phenol and acetone, which has the advantages of high yield, good quality and low utility consumption

    The Evonik MSHP process flow generates cumene through the hydrogenation of α-methylstyrene, so as to achieve the purpose of recovery and recycling and re-oxidation


    .


    The integration of these process technologies can not only achieve low energy consumption and high output of phenol and acetone, but also have the advantages of flexible operation, long production cycle, safety and reliability
