Sinochem News, according to the offshore engineering website, June 16 news, Sweden Lundin Energy said on Wednesday that it has sold a batch of petroleum products certified as carbon-neutral at the production site to the South Korean refinery GS-Caltex.
This is the first sale of this type of crude oil at the Johan Sverdrup field in Norway
.
Lundin said that the company's crude oil extracted from the Sverdrup field has been certified by Intertek Group, which also approved the first batch of carbon-neutral crude oil extracted from another North Sea oil field by the oil company earlier this year.
.
From the perspective of exploration, development and Scope 1 and 2 emissions, the oil will be considered carbon neutral, but does not include the main emissions caused by the end-use of the oil (Scope 3)
.
Lundin Energy said that the Sverdrup oil platform is powered by land-based hydroelectric power generation.
Therefore, each barrel of oil equivalent of crude oil produced only emits 0.
45 kg of carbon dioxide, which is about 2.
5% of the global average
.
Lundin Energy said in a statement on Wednesday: “The company subsequently took further steps to use high-quality natural carbon capture projects to neutralize net residual emissions
.
”
The company has previously stated that it will use tree planting projects to neutralize such emissions
.
Lundin Energy said: “All future net production from Johan Sverdrup will pass the Tianxiang Group’s zero carbon emission standard certification
.
”
Tianxiang Group provides certification to customers including Carrefour, ConocoPhillips and Unilever.
The group participates in testing, inspection and verification to ensure that products meet quality, safety, environmental and other standards
.
Lundin Energy holds a 20% stake in Johan Sverdrup operated by Equinor.
Johan Sverdrup is the largest oil field in Western Europe with a daily output of 535,000 barrels of oil equivalent
.
Other owners are Aker BP, TotalEnergies and Petoro
