A state-run agency in the Indian state of Maharashtra has reportedly proposed plans
to install solar panels in the backwaters of two dams to generate electricity.

It is understood that the Jayakwadi Dam in the central Aurangabad district of Maharashtra and the Ujani Dam in the Solapur district of Western Maharashtra will be the site of
    solar power projects.
The Maraswada Statutory Development Corporation (MSDC), formed by the state government, has proposed plans
to build floating solar panels in the backwaters of two dams under its jurisdiction.

The chairman of MSDC said, "Like Ujani, the Jayakwadi dam has extensive backwater that can be used to install floating solar panels for power generation
    .
There is plenty of free space at the end of the dam that we plan to use for (erection) solar panels.
The Ujani and Jayakwadi dams fall under the jurisdiction of the company
    .
We decided to pursue this concept seriously and came up with practical plans
for the construction of solar panels.

The Jayakwadi dam is located in Marathwada, near the city of Aurangabad, and is a major source
    of water in arid areas.
The Ujani dam is built on the Bhima River in Madha tehsil
    , in Solapur district.
    It is the largest dam
in the region in terms of water storage capacity.
