Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) recently signed a licensing agreement with Mitsui Chemicals, Inc.
Under the agreement, Mitsui Chemicals will acquire the rights to a basic patent (JP4380654) of a biomass-based polyester owned by MCC

    .

The license includes the production and manufacture of bio-PET, the use of renewable biomass resources from which to obtain products such as low-carbon bottles
    .

The patents owned by MCC are substance patents for high quality polyesters based on biomass, the essential patents required to manufacture or sell the material
    .
MCC has registered the patent in Japan, USA, EU and China

    .

MCC holds many other patents for biomass products
    .
In order to promote the adoption of biomass-derived materials that impose a lower environmental load, MCC will not only continue to expand its own business, but will also promote cooperation and licensing arrangements with other companies

    .

This year, Mitsui accelerated its decarbonization efforts
    .
In addition to the current agreement, the company is partnering with Neste and Toyota Tsusho to achieve Japan's first industrial production of renewable polymers from 100% bio-based hydrocarbons

    .
The partnership will allow Neste to produce its drip-feed Neste RE feedstock entirely from renewable feedstocks, which Mitsui Chemicals will use to replace some of the fossil feedstocks it uses in the cracker at its Osaka plant, becoming the first company in Japan to use these feedstocks in its cracker.

    .

In addition, Mitsui has signed a memorandum of understanding with PureCycle Technologies to develop a facility in Japan to produce what PureCycle calls ultrapure recycled polypropylene (UPRP)
